Smith Island Maryland (MD) crabbing, scuba diving, kayaking, 9 layer cake!
We have recently aquired a small house on Smith Island, MD. I can't put my first trip to Smith Island, Maryland into words. It really had to stop for a second and take it all in. The only way to arrive on Smith Island is buy boat or ferry. There are only a couple ferries that run to the island. The one that I arrived on is privately owned. The island is famous for crabbing. Most of the worlds crabs come from within 40 miles or so from the island. It is so rich in crabs that most of the people on the island make the living from their boats. Once you get to the island you are warmly welcomed by the locals. A small store is right at the dock incase you need food, drink, or other items. The kayaking they say is some of the best in the world. The birdlife is incredible while you're kayaking. There are multiple trails, etc. The house that we have has its own private dock. The scuba diving is good too. It is black water, but lots of stuff to find. On my first trip to the island I had a peice of the famous 9 layer cake. I'm certain it is very rich in calories but it was probably the best cake that I had ever had. I'm looking forward to spending time there this summer doing a little scuba diving, kayaking, crabbing, etc. I welcome any of you to come with me!
